Coach Responsibilities

  • Establish a Safe, Supportive Environment: Build trust through confidentiality, non-judgmental listening, and respect.
  • Facilitate Self-Discovery: Help clients explore values, motivations, and long-term visions for their health and well-being.
  • Goal Setting and Planning: Collaboratively set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) and plan to reach them.
  • Behavior Change Support: Use evidence-based coaching techniques to foster self-efficacy and accountability.
  • Monitor Progress and Provide Feedback: Regularly review goals, celebrate successes, and adapt plans as needed.
  • Boundary Setting and Scope Awareness: Stay within the coaching scope (do not provide medical or psychological advice) and refer clients to other professionals when needed.
  • Ongoing Education: Stay updated on wellness and behavior change science to provide accurate, relevant guidance.

Client Responsibilities

  • Active Engagement: Take an active role in sessions, including self-reflection and honesty about experiences, barriers, and goals.
  • Commitment to Goals: Commit to the goals set collaboratively and invest effort to follow through on action steps between sessions.
  • Open Communication: Share challenges, feedback, and changing needs so the coach can adjust support as necessary.
  • Self-Monitoring: Track progress on agreed-upon behaviors, whether through journaling, apps, or other methods, to enhance self-awareness and accountability.
  • Adherence to Boundaries: Understand the coaching scope and communicate any health issues or changes so appropriate referrals can be made if needed.
  • Responsibility for Results: Recognize that the client drives the behavior change process, with the coach as a supportive guide.
  • Commitment to Personal Growth: Be open to exploring motivations, experimenting with new strategies, and developing self-efficacy.
